The removed fat can also be processed in a specific way and then be transferred to a different area of the body such as the nasolabial folds in order to fill in gaps or cover small deformities. A modern use of the lipofilling-liposculpture technique is in breast reconstruction or breast augmentation.
Dr. Stavrou uses the power-assisted liposuction technique that results in a more accurate and uniform removal of the fat and by that reducing the possibility of irregularities of the body contour after liposuction.
The procedure can be done under sedation together with topical anesthesia. General anesthesia might be needed if liposuction is extensive or combined with other procedures. An overnight stay in the clinic may be required although most cases are performed as outpatient procedures and are discharged home.
Recovery is easy. A few days away from work are needed and within a week the swelling and brushing will go away. The post-op use of pressure garments is advised in order to reduce the collection of fluids and shape your new body curves. Return to your everyday activities can begin gradually form the 1st post-op day.
Results are long-term but possible changes in your body weight or a future pregnancy can alter the outcome. Follow up visits with Dr. Stavrou will continue for at least a year after the procedure.
